Michael Gordon

In the fall of 2012, Michael was invited to join Manhattanville College's radio station, MVL Radio, which was ranked at #1 in the Princeton Review's Best College Radio Stations in 2019.  Michael's show was a one-hour (formerly two-hour) weekly segment called "Shades' Shenanigans," which explored his extensive musical tastes as well as his broad knowledge of the artists he showcases.  For inspiration, Michael turned his iTunes library on shuffle and from there created a widely varied list of music.  Sometimes, he would create a themed show, such as Back to School, Christmas, and St. Patrick's Day (when he played music from Irish bands) from his custom built, ever growing, music database.

DJ's are encouraged to play any number of songs off of any of the CMJ (College Music Journal) playlists on the station computer (a.k.a. "the rack") and keep record.  The purpose of this is not only to expose DJ's to new music being released in the indie, rock and hip-hop fields, but also for the station's music directors to report back to promoters and record labels how much their music is being played.

Michael has also recorded PSA's during his internships at both WNTN and Lasell College's WLAS, and worked as the sole music director at WLAS.  Click here to listen to some of the PSA's he has recorded.

Radio Experience

Click here to listen to a recording of Michael's show, recorded on April 21, 2016.  It is worth noting that since this was on the day that Prince passed away, Michael quickly added one of his songs to the playlist to pay tribute.  FYI, the three rack songs are edited out of the recording, which is why a radio transition sound effect can be heard after the second, fifth and eighth songs.  The playlist for this show is shown below.

This is a typical randomized radio playlist from when Michael's show was 2 hours long.  It does not include any rack songs because those come from the station collection (although they were played at the time).  Note the wide variety of songs as well as the GOA song at the end.
